Minutes of the SEWrority Sisters Quilting Guild – November 25, 2023

Linda Brown, President called the meeting to order at 10:35 a.m.

Lu Enloe, Welcome Chair, welcomed one visitor, Valerie Stickles.

Gail McClain, Membership Chair, pined new member Janelle Osborne and members Carol Bradshaw, Audrey Bergen and Janet Thomas, who joined in October. The membership is now 73. Carol Bradshaw won the door prize drawing.

LeeAnn Scogin, WIP Chair, gave an update on the last month of the 2023 WIPs. New round will begin in January.

Sueann Lawson, BOM Chair, gave an update. More than 100 blocks have been submitted. Thirty are needed in each category in order to complete quilts. Three more are needed in Spring colors, 13 Christmas and seven Summer. The blocks for 2024 and 2025 were selected by the committee.

Judy Scott, Retreat Committee rep, gave an update on the Retreat. 23 are currently signed up for the April 1-5 retreat at the FFA in Covington, GA. The committee is soliciting donations for the retreat goodie bags and door prizes. Donations should be in quantities of 32 and needed by the March meeting. Gail McClain informed the group that the design for the 2024 t-shirts will be finished in January. It will include the retreat dates and available in long and short sleeves. The minimum order is 24 and the cost will be $20 or less.

Karen Moore, Program Chair introduced the presenters. The main program consisted of demonstrations on project bags and aprons by Kathy Bannister, seat belt cushions by Vicky Galczynski, pot holders by Charlene Mehlenbeck and mini design boards by Linda Brown.

Kathy Bannister, Community Service Chair discussed the Christmas Party for December 9 at noon. Members are asked to bring their favorite side dish or dessert with serving utensils as well as a pair of Christmas socks- one stuffed with goodies ($25 limit). There will be an ugly sweater competition and LRC with fat quarters.

Debbie Sutton, Fundraising Chair, drew Charlene Mehlenbeck as the winner of the Keepsake Quilting Panel kit.

Karen Friberg, Sunshine Chair, reminded members that there would not be a birthday basket drawing in December. Those with December birthdays can bring their baskets in January. Michelle Malecki’s basket was won by Amber Bannister, Kathy Bannister’s basket was won by Amber Bannister, Monica Babcock’s basket was won by Peggy Loney, Gail McLain’s basket was won by Martha Nestor, Vicky Galczynski’s basket was won by Monica Babcock, Tracy Lord’s basket was won by Karen Friberg and Sueann Lawson’s basket was won by Charlene Mehlenbeck.

Brenda Bannister, Community Service Chairperson, updated the 2023 projects complete under Julie Arsenault. The guild provided seven crocheted blankets, 107 NICU quilts, 120 NICU hats and 15 quilts to St. Francis and the Harris County Sheriff.

Tracie Moore is the Webmaster.
The Midland UMC Craft Fair and Hamilton Craft Fair are 12/2.
