Minutes Saturday, June 6th, 2026
Called to order 10:30am by President, Gail McLain
Gail led an opening prayer. She discussed various Christmas in July events happening in the local areas and some further out that we might want to look into.
Debbie Sutton with the Welcoming Committee introduced visitors: Valerie Stickles, John Kaminsky, Joe Wise and Rhonda Hardin.
Sherri Frickel with the Membership Committee stated that we have 99 members. Sherri conducted the drawings. The winner for wearing the Name Badge was Drucye Cox and Charlotte Matthews won the Door Prize.
Syble Bailey with the Sunshine Committee recognized June and July Birthdays. We serenaded them with Happy Birthday.
Robyn Shreve noted that the Quilts of Valor Committee has 11 people waiting to be presented, 9 of which will be done at our August meeting. Two of the nine are members of our guild. The QOV Heart pin challenge is still running. They need 5″ squares in Blue and White. They will have a table set up at the “WE CARE VET FAIR” July 24 from 9am to 4pm and volunteers are needed for two 3 1/2 hour shifts to run the SSQG table. The event will be at the Columbus Civic Center. Quilt kits are available . QOV Foundation is looking for donations for an online auction. More details can be found on the QOV Foundation web page.
Sandy Burnett Explained the WIP Challenge noting that #3 is due July 4th. Photos of the completed project are to be sent to Sandy Burnett.
Charlene Mehlenbeck reported on the Retreats that are currently planned. On July, 23rd-25th, we will have a Mini retreat at Christ the King Catholic Church in Pine Mountain. Times are 9am to 6pm on Thursday and Friday, and 9am to 3 pm on Saturday. No set up but will need assistance sweeping for pins and vacuuming. Drinks will be provided. Bring your own lunch and snacks if you’d like. On October 26th-30th, we will have our Fall retreat in Covington, GA. 12 meals will be included. $50 deposit to hold and balance will be due at the September meeting. $345 if two to a room and $450 if one to a room.
Kerri Gonyou-Schelp reported on the fundraising committee. The raffle quilt is complete and is being quilted. The WAHA festival will be October 17th. We will need volunteers to sign up to assist. Two items per person can be brought to display. There will be a group photo after the meeting for all who participated in the Postcard Exchange.
Becky Land showed the June and July Blocks for the block of the Month committee. She noted that the patterns are handed out at each meeting and are also available on our website along with tutorials.
Anita Rodgers reported on the Community Outreach committee. 122 tote bags, and also zipper bags, backpacks, bean bag toys and 29 quilts were delivered to the Children’s Advocacy Center. 8 quilts were delivered to Hope Harbor. 15 quilts and 14 walker caddies were delivered to Oakview Nursing Home. Next Sew date to make Teddy Bears for children and more walker caddies is Aug 29th at the Columbus Public Library on Macon Rd. Anita showed members the new sunflower pin. Make 5 quilts between now and December to earn the pin. Those quilts will be delivered to needy people for Christmas.
Christmas in July Program presentations were as follows: Gail McLain with Christmas Tree Napkins, Linda Brown with Crossbody Bags, Tote Bags and Placemat Pouches, Debbi Sutton with Snowy Mason Jars, Amber Bannister with Fabric Covered Flower pots, Charlene Mehlenbeck with a Quick & Easy Table Runner and Sherri Frickel with Quilted Cookies. Printed instructions for all items were made available to members.
Members took a 10 minutes break.
