Sewing to Serve Project

Objective: To join together as a guild and create items needed by services in our community to provide a comfort in time of need.

July 9th – Quilts of Valor – using the 12.5″ blocks you have been donating:
Fabric and additional blocks have been collected.
We have already grouped your blocks and chosen sashing, cornerstone, and backing fabrics. These have been grouped into 4 kits, ready to be sewn on the 9th.
We will have 4 quilt sewing teams and 1 Pillowcase/Presentation Bag sewing team.

Things to bring the day of:
Sewing Machine (If it is a lot of trouble to bring your machine, then don’t. We will need ladies to cut, iron, pin, and other things!)
Normal Sewing Accessories such as: Extension cord, Power strip, Ruler, Cutting mat, Rotary cutter, Pins & Jack, The Ripper, Wool pressing mat (if available)
Put your name on everything you bring that you want to keep!

MAY 7: We will be working on quilts for the the Harris County Deputies to keep in their cars to give away whenever there is a need.
Things to bring:
Fabric (for tops, backing, and binding)
Can be already cut into 5″ squares, or not.
Can be already sewn into 9 patch squares (from 5″ blocks), or not
Batting (whole pieces and/or scraps that can be joined)
Sewing Machine (If it is a lot of trouble to bring your machine, then don’t. We will need ladies to cut, iron, pin, and other things!)
Normal Sewing Accessories such as:
Extension cord, Power strip, Ruler, Cutting mat, Rotary cutter, Pins & Jack, The Ripper, Wool pressing mat (if available)

Pattern:
We will all use the same pattern
that starts with 9 patch blocks made from 5″ squares.
These blocks will be cut in half vertically and horizontally then rotated and sewn back together to make our main block. The quilts will a 4 x 5 grid of these main blocks.
Printed directions will be available as well as examples photos of various ways turn the blocks as well as in 3, 4, and 5 color versions plus a scrappy version.
