Minutes of the SEWrority Sisters Quilting Guild – October 26, 2024

Linda Brown, President called the meeting to order at 10:33 A.M.

Welcome Committee chairwoman Lu Enloe – welcomed visitors- Martha McCrary and Mary Ann Feiertag.

Membership, Gail, pinned new members Martha McCrary and Mary Ann Feiertag.

 Gail McLain, door prize winner Pat Mistretta.

Karen Moore, chairwoman for programs, Introduced Lafayette Crouch of Crouch’s Sewing Machine Repair and Sales. Lafayette went over some pointer for sewing machine use and troubleshooting. He graciously answered many questions.

Linda Brown, president of guild, went over announcements.

  • Need for every member to sign a photo release.
  • Need presenters of quick Christmas gift making idea or Christmas ornament for November quild meeting.
  • Announced two Barn Quilt painting classes are scheduled for January 11th and 18th, see Facebook or website for details.
  • Announced the 2025 Calendar of events to be released soon.

Anita, Rodger, Chairwoman of Community programs, announced forty-seven quilts have been made by the guild this year – of which fifteen are being given to House of Heroes, 15 to Focus Care Ministries in Hamilton, and sixteen quilts to Defax for Harris County.

  • The Blue and White quilt for the May raffle will announce upcoming sew dates for guild members to participate.
  • Announced Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy quilt to be made by the guild for international exposure.

Cathy Poyner, Retreat Committee chairwoman, gave updates for retreat planned for 2025. Two away retreats May 14-18, 2025 and October 15-18, 2025. The guild has fifteen members attending our fall retreat this coming week.

Sueann Lawson, BOM chairperson, announced that fifty-one blocks had been turned in prior to today and nineteen more were turned in today. These BOM squares will make two of the quilts that will be raffled in May 2025.

Vicky Galczynski, acting WIP chairperson, announced #1 WIP is due today.

Show and Tell, will be limited to one item per person due to high volume of members:

  • Tracie- children’s bed pocket
  • Denise- fat quarter red and black quilt
  • Vicky- squirrel Thanksgiving quilt
  • Carla- grandson truck quilt
  • Melba- fall leaf quilt- hand quilted

Debbie Sutton, chairwoman of fundraising committee, supervised birthday raffle.

  • Nine birthday baskets raffled.
  • One birthday pound cake from Dosia was won by Lee Shattuck

The meeting was adjourned by Linda Brown at 12:12 P.M.

All members were invited to attend the SEWrority Sisters Quilt Guild fourth birthday celebration to be held in the kitchen. Good fellowship, fun and games was had by all attendees and twenty prizes were raffled.
